The department also ensures that landlord Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) are distributed as scheduled, performs fair market rent determinations, conducts Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections and re-inspections, and performs annual reviews of tenant utility allowances, making revisions and adjustments as necessary.

APPLYING FOR HOUSING
Application Process
• Applicants must be able to present positive identification (driver’s license, state I.D., )
• All applications are taken through the web site.
• Applicant’s status on the waiting list can be checked through the website.
• Applicants are placed on waiting list according to application date and time and receipt of application.
The waiting list is usually 24 to 36 months.
• As applicants move closer to the top of the waiting list, an eligibility appointment will be made.
REQUIRMENTS
SCREENING PROCESS
• Applicant(s) are screened for drug-related criminal activity
• Applicant(s) are screened for alcohol and/or criminal-related activity
• Applicant(s) are screened for criminal activity that could pose a threat to the peaceful enjoyment of other residents.
• Applicant(s) are screened for debts and/or evictions from other housing authorities
DOCUMENTATION NECESSARY FOR ELIGIBLLITY
• Original Birth Certificate (for each family member who will be on the lease)
• Original Social Security card (for each family member who will be on the lease)
• Verification of income
• Other documentation deemed necessary for eligibility

HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM
The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides assistance for low income families in the private rental market.

The department also ensures that landlord Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) are distributed as scheduled, performs fair market rent determinations, conducts Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections and re-inspections, and performs annual reviews of tenant utility allowances, making revisions and adjustments as necessary.
As a participant in the Housing Choice Voucher Program remember to:
• Report changes in your income and /or household composition within 10 days of the change
• Be present at the unit for annual HQS inspections
• Attend your scheduled recertification appointment
• Pay your portion of rent to the landlord, on time
• Comply with the terms of your lease
If you are currently on the waiting list, you must notify the housing authority in writing of any change in your address or household composition. If you do not update your information, you may lose your place on the waiting list.
